The Records

This blog started after I joined Spotify, and suddenly, I had  millions of songs at my fingertips. One of the first things I did when I started listening to Spotify was to make a list of my Favorite Songs Ever.   However, when that was exhausted, I felt an intense need to find new music.    Not necessarily "new new" music, but music that was new to me.      I've always liked the band Shoes, (I will talk about their new 2012 album in a later post) and when I went to listen to their best album, Present Tense I clicked on the Related Artists tab, and discovered The Records.

Hailing from the UK,  The Records existed from 1978-1982. Influenced by The Raspberries, Big Star and Badfinger and The Searchers (among others), the band played an energetic brand of power pop that nearly bridged itself into 80's new wave.   In their short life, the band wrote two of the best power pop songs ever recorded:

Starry Eyes

and  Teenarama

These two songs have now been added to my list of my  Favorite Songs Ever.  They are the songs that started my excavation in power pop and new wave that I missed, and the ones that made me a die hard devotee of the magic of Spotify.

By the way, I went about bought both these songs on iTunes after I found them...
